Overview

A custom-PC shop sells judgement: which parts work together, and what the finished machine will do. Online, that judgement usually turns into a long list of parts and a phone call to check the build. We built a store a PC shop can put its own name on, where the configurator carries the judgement.

  • 11Slots in a build, 7 requiredAs built
  • 6Compatibility checks before you pickAs built
  • 76Products in the demo catalogAs built

The challenge

  • A buyer picks parts from a list with nothing to say which ones work together.
  • Compatibility gets checked by a person, on a call, after the choice is made.
  • The quote for a build lives in a chat, not a document the buyer can keep.

The solution

  • Every part is checked against the build before it can be picked, with the reason shown.
  • The whole build is checked again, power supply included, for the summary and its PDF spec sheet.
  • The spec sheet goes home with the buyer and restores the build when it comes back.

What shipped

  • A configurator with 11 slots, 7 of them required, that greys out any part that will not fit the build so far and says why.
  • Six compatibility checks: processor and board socket, cooler mount, memory type, board size against the cabinet, cooler rating against the processor, and the power supply against the estimated load.
  • A downloadable PDF spec sheet for any build, which the configurator can read back to restore that build.
  • Indicative gaming and creator scores for a build, labelled as estimates wherever they appear.
  • Typo-tolerant part search: "ryzn" still finds Ryzen.
  • A checkout that reverse-geocodes the buyer's location into an address, with a typed fallback when location is refused.
  • Shop, category and product pages for a 76-product demo catalog, an account area, and content pages with a sitemap.

How we built it

A white-label custom-PC store: shop, category and product pages, a configurator that builds a PC slot by slot and refuses what will not fit, a PDF spec sheet for any build that can be uploaded again to restore it, a cart and a checkout that turns the buyer's location into a delivery address, and an account area. GetYourName is the placeholder name a shop replaces with its own.

Results

A store any PC shop can put its own name on, where the configurator refuses a build that will not work.

A white-label demo: no shop sells on it yet, so there are no sales figures. Its name, phone number, ratings and stock are placeholders a shop replaces with its own, and orders are not kept in a database until a shop takes it live.

  • 16Days from first commit to a working storeAs built

Built to grow

  • Built once, to be sold to any PC shop under its own name, catalog and prices.
